Chesterville is a village that no longer exists but will never die. It, along with many other villages in Ontario was legislated out of existence on January 1, 1998 when the Government of Ontario forced almagamation to take place.

Chesterville lies in Winchester Township, Dundas County, one of the "back" townships. The "front" townships along the St Lawrence River were the first to be settled and people did not start arriving in the Chesterville area in numbers until about 1820. The Irish were heavily represented among the early settlers. Growth continued in a slow manner and another major influx of new people occurred after WW II with the arrival of many Dutch families. Recently, Swiss German people have started moving to the area as well.
