Michael is the sunshine in our lives. He was a strange baby - he never crawled. Instead, he would sit crosslegged (as in a yoga pose), put both hands on the floor and swing or drag himself around. Honest! His favourite sitting position is still crosslegged with back straight.

Michael was late learning to talk but after he started, he never stopped. He used to be a good travel companion, chatting non stop and helpng the time to pass. Now, he is the most boring travel companion imaginable. Wherever he goes, he must take a bag of books and as soon as he is in the car, his nose is in the current book and not a word is heard until we arrive at our destination. It is like travelling alone.

Michael is our family klutz. One of the pictures below shows him, age 4, after breaking his arm at the elbow and being pinned. Another picture shows him age 9 with another break in the same arm. Not shown is the bad bruise to the same arm he received at age 10 when he toppled a tombstone on himself. In 1998, at 11, he broke the same arm again after going head first over the handlebars of his bike, saying "I accidentally applied the front brakes". The mistake his father made was removing the training wheels from Michael's bike before his 16th birthday.

Michael is a voracious reader, an avid computer game player and is interested in sports, especially baseball. He sews and cooks (a recent project was to make dog biscuits for Duchie and, during the ice storm, he made pancakes from scratch and cooked them on top of the wood stove). He is our designated family fisherman and a very adventurous eater - he tries and relishes the crab, frog legs, squid etc that his brother won't touch.
