Mary, Jim, and Steve discuss Walter's decision to leave John's law office and return to prosecuting.
In their home, Walter confesses to Lenore his underhanded dealings and betrayal of Steve. Note in the closing how much improved Chet Kingsbury has become in playing the theme.

February 1972

After a violent quarrel with Walter, Lenore vandalizes the living room. I am not sure what else is occurring in this scene: It may be that Walter has returned and Lenore sees him peering in through the window. Then Russ and Paula arrive and find the house in shambles.
A hysterical Lenore needs to be sedated.
Walter, driving in his car on his way to John's office hallucinates and has an imaginary conversation with Lenore. Then his conscience itemizes all of his transgressions before his car plunges off the road and bursts into flames.
Closing: No music, just sound effects of a stormy night.

The prologue of the following episode replays Walter's fatal car accident. Note the mournfully unique treatment Kingsbury gives to the theme.
Pat arrives to deliver the news of Walter's death to Lenore.
Pat, with Russ present, breaks the devastating news to Lenore, who is then brought to the hospital.

Lenore, in her hospital room, too ill to attend Walter's funeral, plays out Walter's eulogy in her mind, admitting to herself that none of these laudatory comments are true.
Mary repeatedly rings Alice's doorbell, gets no answer, enters, and finds her pregnant daughter unconscious on the floor, apparently having fallen off a stepladder.
The rather odd simpering sound Alice is making while lying on the floor can be heard.
