Strapping is an excellent way to make the wall's foundation straight and requires careful follow up when installing drywall. Economy style 2" X 4" boards are acceptable for strapping. When the wall is installed these boards are hidden.
Be selective with the 2" X 4" X 8' or 10' boards you are using. Be on the lookout for straight boards that are not warped. Allow yourself a few hours at the lumber store carefully inspecting the boards before making your purchase. It is difficult, but not impossible to find 10' lengths that are straight. Use a sharp saw blade when cutting your boards to size. Circular utility saw blades that have few (24) teeth that cut the wood are good for rough cuts; additional teeth are needed to make a fine cut. Shims may be required when installing your strapping. Use a level to detect and cause your strapping to be installed straight.
