Before beginning your installation confirm the path for the water being pumped. If you are running plumbing outside of your house bury the pipe below the frost line. Also install this pipe angling down so the water won't run back into your dwelling when the pump shuts off. Check that you have an electrical outlet within reaching distance to where you intend to install your sub pump. Also consider the need for a generator. The power of the sub pump you purchase should be based on the volume of water you are pumping the height you have to pump up. At the same time as installing your sub pump you may wish to check that major alliances in the basement such as your furnace and water heater are not sitting directly on the cement floor. Flooding may destroy these appliances.
The sub pump hole should be approxiamately 30" or 75 cm deep. Your hard ware store will have a plastic container and lid to install your sub pump into. Install your sub pump so it sits on a cement block or a series of bricks. This will allow the sand and grit to settle to the bottom of your pit and prolong the life of your sub pump. For specific instructions see the installation guide that comes with your pump. Sub pumps range in price and power.
