
The felucca is a narrow, fast sailboat which is lateen-rigged, i.e. using a triangular sail hung on a long yard which itself is attached to the top of a short mast at an angle. The design dates back to ancient times.
These vessels were once very common both on the Nile and in the Mediterranean Sea. Today they are still a frequent sight on the Nile.
The name derives from the Arabic "fulk" meaning ship.
