WHO ARE WE?

The Women's Side of the Ottawa Indians Rugby Football Club originated in 1989 as a member of the Ontario Rugby Union. In 1994, the team became a member of the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union, where we competed against high caliber teams for the next four years. Through hard work and determination, in 1999, we were offered the opportunity to compete in the Quebec Rugby Union (QRU), one of the most competitive and highly regarded leagues across Canada.

In 2000, we won the Division 2 Title, defeating Beaconsfield in the final game on August 25^th!

This year, we gained over 20 new players to the Club, but lost 11 of our veteran players to re-locations, injuries and other silly things.  We finished the season in 3rd place, with a record of 5 wins and 6 losses. 

Our team has always consisted of players with a wide variety of experience ranging from first time players to Provincial and "Area" rep team caliber.

We continue to be one of the strongest sides in Eastern Ontario, and for the second year in a row, we  fielded a development side  in the Eastern Ontario " Russell" League. All high school players all welcome to become part of this development side, to help them gain experience and give them rugby throughout the year! We are very active in the community, and a number of our players coach in high schools in Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata and Richmond.

We play in several tournaments each year, aside from our regular league games every Saturday. Annual tournaments include the Truro (NS) Saints Indoor Seven's Tournament in March, the Barracks Rangers Blue Balls 10's Tournament (Watertown, NY), the Beaver's "Keith's Canada Day 7's" Tournament and the Saranac Lake Can-Am Tournament in August.

Of course, the most important tournament of the year is the Ottawa Indians R.F.C Annual Tournament, the largest 15's tournament in Canada!

We were extremely fortunate this year to welcome Owen McInerney as Head Coach of the Women's team. Owen moved to Ottawa from Nova Scotia last summer and accepted the position of Head Coach after the Indians helped make a home for him here in Ottawa. He has been in the rugby scene for many years, having been part of the coaching staff for Rugby Canada's Sr. Women's Program in 1996. Owen also coached the Nova Scotia Provincial Women's team and Provincial Men's teams from 1987 to 1996. We are very lucky to have his organizational skills and coaching expertise and look forward to more success in 2002! Assisting Owen in his challenge are two well-known Indians with great records for coaching in Ottawa. Ross Monsour and Scott Mills bring experience and a well-rounded edge to the coaching staff of the Indians Women's program.
