Montreal, 22nd of March at Le Spectrum.

My friend steph and I arrived and waited in line for about an hour and a half, before being let in. We checked our coats and ran to get the perfect spot! Unfortunately the perfect spot was taken so we settled for the left side of the stage near Chris.

The show started at 8 exactly with Lit, a band from Aneheim California. They were crazy! They said it was their last show with the 'chair so i felt special seeing them for the last time with silverchair! They were pretty good at getting the crowd going, and even played 30 seconds of tomorrow, which really got me ready for the 'chair. It was hilarious cause the lead singer didn't really know the words, but was still creative with what he knew!Their set lasted around 45 minutes. That's when the big guys came out and gathered in the pit. steph and I were really scared cause we aren't exactly big enough not to get the crap beaten out of us. But we decided we would fight for our spot!

The 'chair came out at around 9 to 10:45!It was fucking crazy! this being my first silverchair concert i didn't really know what to expect and after waiting four years for a concert near me, i didn't want to be let down. The taxi driver " are you talkin' to me " came on and the room filled with screams! silverchair opened with an incredible version of emotion sickness, a song i was really looking forward to hearing live!

silverchair really got the crowd going, which i was amazed me! daniel didn't say much just that montreal rox & he thought it would be the leader in the number of neon lights in the year 2000! All night daniel was dodging plastic bottles & presents & a t-shirt even landed on his shoulder during the set. I think ben's kit got pegged by a bottle too. It seemed daniel was a little paranoid about being hit ever since he got decked with that bottle in Santa Monica, but i would have been too. He kept saying, "stop throwing gifts at me. i have enough stuff!". Through out songs, when not singing daniel kept mouthing "crazy mother fuckers" which i thought was hilarious.

They rolled through slow to heavy songs all night and i was really happy to see my fave 'chair songs played: the door, paint pastel princess, suicidal dream, and miss you love.
The set list: ( not in total order)
emotion sickness
israel's son
ana's song
no association
point of view
abuse me
miss you love
suicidal dream
mad man
tomorrow (solo)
paint pastel princess
the door
freak
dearest helpless
anthem for the year 2000
encore:
satin sheets
pure massacre

The highlights of the show were a beautiful solo version of tomorrow by daniel, ben's crazy drumming on "the door",chris drawn so far over his bass during ana's song and an energetic mad man, freak and anthem. During Anthem ,daniel tried to get the crowd to repeat " we are the youth" and after 5 or 6 unsuccessful tries he gave up... i think the crowd was confused but i was screaming "we are the youth" as loud as possible.I hid my fragile self behind this big guy who was taking his anger out on people smashing into him from the pit, so i was safe and happy!

After the show, Steph and I stuck around for an hour or so (OUTSIDE in the freezing cold!!)and eventually they came out to their bus.chris, daniel then ben. The funniest part was that ben had a video camera and filmed the whole thing. He went and sat at the front of the bus and video tapped the ten people there while chris and daniel sat at the back. John Watson, came up behind steph and i and was dancing around, so ben was filming steph and i with bewildered looks on our faces. The funniest thing was some girl lifted up her shirt and flashed ben. He seemed pretty happy with it and kept filimg. As they pulled away, i stuck my tongue out at ben and he did the same, and my silverchair day was over. If they come within 2000 km of my hometown, i'll make my way all the way there just to see the chair again. silverchair put on an amazing hshow, the best concert i had ever been to!

Ottawa Edgefest,july 3rd.

dan in Ottawa

This years Edgefest was going to be even better than the last, with a new venue and the chair on the bill, i was really anxious to see the results. We bused there and arrived before the gates opened and found the people we were meeting in line. They had been there for several hours so we didn't have to wait in the back of the line that was spiralling into infinity. Ottawa has so many dedicated chair fans that there were people who had been waiting the night before to get a good spot for the chair's set!

silverchair's set started at 6:30 pm, but i had seen ben off to the side testing his drumkit during the band before. They came out with an incredible version of slave. It was so tight and heavy , i was glad to hear it since i had worn out slave on my c.d. they ran through a mix of frogstomp and freakshow songs, Madman, the door, pure massacre, with new neon ballroom songs such as Ana's song and a beautiful rendition of emotion sickness! This was my second time seeing the chair and i think they pulled this song off really well, even better then before.Ben's bass drum was pounding and was so tight with chris' bass riffs, it made the live version work well.

To my surprise, unlike before they played tomorrow all together , not just daniel with a solo, which i had loved. Instead to spice it up , they played half of tomorrow, then in the middle jumped into a wild version of satin sheets! it was amazing, silverchair have an incredible stage presence and they wowed doubters with this great, complex switch.

Unlike other bands that had played earlier, daniel was very chatty. He said ,"i heard from the weather forecast there will be a huge storm, hurry, you must run for shelter" and "please don't throw shoes, we had enough, don't throw projectiles, just throw you're love!" Throughout their set, my friend liz and i were at the front being crush to pieces, it was so tight that you couldn't even move. During freak, this
drunk girl was thrashing around pushing me,so liz pushed back, then she ran and grabed liz's tiera and threw it, and so liz smacked her in the face. She defended me, it was great.

Before Anthem, daniel talked about the power of the event staff, saying " DO you believe in the power of the event staff? if you believe it scream it ! do you believe in the power of the event staff!" which made the bouncers at the front laugh. Being a chatty kathy he also said, "does anyone believe in jesus christ... all his power, i'm just kidding i don't give a shit, do you believe in Satan... fuck, can i get a hallelujah? can i get a hallelujah? can i get a halle-fucking-lujah!" he did this at the last concert i saw in montreal ( march 20) and so i was saying it as he was! during anthem, people who didn't know the chair very well, begin jumping and dancing and screaming as daniel screamed "we are the youth". Liz and i where the only ones to repeat it!

After about a half an hour show, liz and i were exhausted and collasped on the ground, exhausted but so satisfied. The chair, once again put on an amazing show!

newPerth , August 8th, by Jane!

We arrived in perth at 4.10pm on Sunday the 8th of August. When we got to the entertainment center it was already packed out with fans lining up already for the doors to open. we were just standing there talking and all of a sudden i go to my buddi Jen look there's a silver tarago ( custard always travel in tarago's and she likes them so yeh), then we looked closer and it was silverchair in there!!! we waved at them and they smiled. It was so cool! we than decided to go to get something to eat before lining up in a big long queue. Okay so we were lining up in the line for just over an hour when one guard closed these doors near us and ppl thought the doors we opening and everyone rushed and pushed it was sooo funny we just nearly all fell over!. Finally we got up to the door and were told we were at the wrong door, so we walked all the way down to the end of the center to the last door. we finally go in. i then brought my shirt, (the baseball one) itz cool.

we then went and watched pre-shrunk and Placebo. Finally silverchair came on and me and my buddy Ciara just screamed!! They started off with Emotion Sickness, Israel's Son and Slave which was really cool. After saying stuff like thanks guys etcc, silverchair played Abuse Me, which sounded cool after a big mosh for Slave and Israel's Son. With another slow song they played Ana's Song which was really cool. Daniel kept kinda talking to himself and moving his jaw funny, it looked weird. He sang Ana's song kinda different and at one stage the crowd was singing before johnsy even said the words. After Ana's song they got into Suicidal Dream which it was then that people brought out all their cigarette lighters and some glowy things that made it all eery kinda.

Next up Daniel then said thanx again to Perth and for having them and everything, although it was hard to hear him with the crowd screaming and chicks screeching....
Paint Pastel Princess was next which was followed by Point Of View. It was during this song that where I was standing the mosh decided to fall over. We all fell on eachother and everyone was just fuck this and fuck that. It was kinda funny becuz we were all like "oh no not again" and we helped eachother...

After that they got into Madman which was really energetic, the mosh went off, so did Daniel, jumping all over everywhere and then posing for me and Kelz for a pic (cute). After singing this Daniel attempted his "does anyone believe in jesus?" with no crowd response he then said "okay i just won't go there then!". The next song Daniel said was about the sun and ofcourse it was the ever popular Tomorrow. Only a few verses were sang before launching into Satin Sheets. After this Daniel told everyone that was sitting in the seats to stand-up, "I'm not just saying this 'cause I'm the frontman. You are allowed to stand up now!!" . He then told us ppl in the mosh to sit down, ofcourse we couldn't we were all joined together in a sweat bath. "come on do it for us" he then said. "NOOOOO" was the response from the mosh, then he gave up. Then Daniel said that there would be an encore "see thats new in our set, we go off and come back". With everyone pumped The Door was sang, with the mosh groovin' all the way, and daniel telling up to "jump motherfuckers jump". Next up was Pure Massacre followed by the sweetest song (my fav, the next single) Miss You Love.

Freak was the next song, and was the song which everyone sang each word screaming the lyrics out. The mosh was wicked ( i didn't have to jump we just jumped all together and i was air-born!). Next up was the song of the year, Anthem for the year 2000. Daniel asked for some volunteers to come up on stage. Unfortunaltey it was the ppl that got dragged out of the mosh for crowd surfing that went up. Four more ppl were needed so the crowd leant forward as far as possible i was leaning so much (lucky i had long arms), but i never got picked, the chick next to me did though! damn. "the chick in the white singlet come on up" Daniel yelled. The song was wicked with johnsy doing his thing with we are the youth and then the crowd having to say it. "come on perth let me here it" and " motherfuckers say it louder!"

Then they left for the encore. The crowd stared chanting "silverchair silverchair silverchair". Ben then came out with his shorts half down chucking a moony. He kept spiting water or spit out into the crowd. He then said into Daniel's microphone "hi im Ben and i like watersports". He then walked to the very edge of the stage facing the crowd, opened his arms and yelled "yeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhh", while chris was taking a photo. Then They all came back on and johnsy said "did you all like that?". ( i did!).

Following that insight Daniel said that they had tried to play this song, but had fucked it up. He then screamed "Kick out the jams, motherfuckers!!", then started the old MC5 classic. The last song the guys played was No Association, this song was hell cool, they played it hard and the mosh went off so much, singing and getting squashed more and more. Then they left. IT WAS THE BEST GIG EVER!!! They rocked the whole way through and didn't let any fan down. The mosh went off and so did silverchair. Can't wait til they come back!
=)

Nov. 10, maple leaf garden's with Blink 182 and Fenix TX

After driving 4 hours from Ottawa to Montreal and actually stopping in a town called Newcastle on the way there, I was excited to head straight to much music for a live interview, which unfortunately didn't go so well for my friend Jessica and I, not being able to see anything.I wanted to beat up all the teenies who were CRYING over how beautiful Daniel was and how they love him etc...

Wet and slightly disgruntaled, we headed straight to Maple leaf Garden's to get in line for the floor. We arrived an hour before and got in in a matter of minutes. Crowded, i saw many of the same people from much music.

The show started off with Fenix TX, who were well, creative atleast, a great punk band muscially, but a little twisted, finished off the set with inflatable penis' on stage. After Fenix TX's set, which lasted about 25 minutes, silverchair came out out with the opening music, different from the usual taxi driver thing. Maybe they got their original intro tapes back, before, just using the taxi intro as a last resort.

Silverchari came on, ben with a candian flag as a skirt. The show started out dark with only Chris' thick bass notes from israel's son filling the arena.Slowly the rest started to unfold. The set concisted of
israel's son
Slave
emotion sickness
Pure massacre
freak
Miss you love
the door
ana's song
satin sheet
anthem
kick out the jams
and an encore of spawn again.

The definate highlights of the show were the crunchy bass in Slave that came through really loudly giving the song alot of energy. Daniel's provaquitive gestures and thrusting dance moves were great!. Swaying hips and licking the mic, pointing in the air, he really knows how to put on a show.

Daniel made his usual chatter, " is this where the maple leaves played? yeah? we like the maple leafs cause they're from toronto, just kidding, cause they are actually a decent team." and the usual " can a get a hallujuah? can i get a hal-fuckin'-lujah etc.. are you ready to rock?"

At one point Daniel said" It's Chris' birthday , so i tired having sex with him but he has a girlfriend so ben is going to sing happy birthday!" Ben came out from hiding, went up to the mike and preceded to sing chris happy birthday, encouraging the crowd to sing too, which we did. Daniel was laughing and they all thought it was pretty funny!

At one point the conversation turned to a bit of an ego booster as Daniel said that canada loves silverchair, oh and we do, so as every cheered and ben stood up on his seat holding up the canadian flag with the message, "Canada loves silverchair scribbed on it" Daniel laughed hysterically and finished with " just kidding, you hate us."

Daniel's live version of Miss you love was almost angelic, he sang it beautifully. In my opinion he has definately found his vocal range, allowing him to even pull off harmonies. Ana's song introduced as " this song has been on the television" was met with huge applause as the crowd stood still for atleast 4 minutes, an acomplishment for some of those sweaty guys who just wanted to mosh.

The show ended with incredibly with the most amazing live version of Spawn again. I've seen silverchair in concert 3 times, and this time more than ever, it was so tight, and full of energy. Daniel let loose howls into the mic and thrashed his guitar to death. He ran over and punched the amp, and screamed so loud, "so eat what you murder" you could tell it was a serious subject for him. And the show ended with daniel collasping on the floor with one last howl.

silverchair, once again pulled off an amazing show and hopefully impressed some of the blink 182 crowd, cause i know i was definately satisifed.

Afterwards we saw ben outside, and he stayed and signed autograph for 30 min. until there was no one left. What a great guy!
