Greg
Gertz is President of Gertz Communications Inc,
which he founded in 1995 and incorporated in 1999.
He has since completed scores of communications
projects for clients in more than 20 public sector
departments, agencies and organizations.
Greg's achievements prior to establishing Gertz
Communications prepared him well to offer broad-based,
knowledgeable advice to his public sector clients.
After a five year stint as a Toronto-based national
business journalist for one of Canada's largest
publishers, he was appointed press secretary to
the Premier of Saskatchewan in 1979, a position
he held until 1982.
He then joined the Government of Canada in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, and was responsible for coordinating
the communications activities of the government's
economic development departments and agencies
in the the province of Nova Scotia.
His work there earned him an invitation in 1986
to join the communications secretariat of the
Government of Canada's primary central agency,
the Privy Council Office (PCO) in Ottawa.
Over the next three years he contributed to the
development of a new government communications
policy, chairing inter-departmental working groups
on public environment analysis and regional communications.
He was also responsible for a portfolio of departments,
working with them and PCO policy analysts on communications
strategies for issues coming before Cabinet for
a decision.
In 1989, Greg became a policy officer in PCO's
Security and Intelligence Secretariat, where he
drafted policy documents and memoranda on foreign
intelligence issues for the Prime Minister and
Cabinet.
He attended Canada's National Defence College
in 1992-93, and was subsequently appointed Director
of Global Issues and Operations in PCO's Intelligence
Assessment Secretariat. There he oversaw
the writing of intelligence reports for senior
government officials and Cabinet by a team of
inter-departmental intelligence analysts.
He was also responsible for the management of
the Secretariat's finances and administration.
As an independent consultant, Greg works directly
with his clients, drawing on his extensive experience
to help them use communications to achieve their
objectives.
He is a member of the Canadian Public Relations
Society (CPRS) and the International Association
of Business Communicators. Accredited (APR) by
CPRS in 1986, he is a former Treasurer of the
Society's Ottawa/Gatineau Chapter and a former
national board member. Greg has a Bachelor
of Arts from the University of Windsor and an
Honours Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University.
