- Experienced user of the ARC/INFO Geographic Information System, in both the VAX and UNIX environments.
- Extensive experience in the design and development of databases at the provincial, regional and national levels, in the IBM mainframe, VAX, UNIX and PC environments, using ARC/INFO, SAS, PC/INFO and dBase.
- Superior writing, editing and computer graphics skills (see publications list).
- Well versed in SAS programming for managing and analyzing a variety of data.
- Experienced user of SAS, ARC/INFO PC/INFO, WordPerfect, CorelDraw!, Harvard Graphics, DOS, Windows, Norton Utilities, Lotus 123, dBase, Easytrieve and several communications and electronic mail packages. Basic grounding in IBM mainframe JCL, VAX utilities, the UNIX operating system, X Windows, and Internet procedures, as well as in the use of several crop yield and erosion models such as EPIC and CERES.
- Experience in providing hardware and software support to a wide range of clients, from research scientists to short-term employees.
- Experience in developing and implementing customized hardware and software configurations in a PC environment, to meet the needs of researchers involved in diverse aspects of land evaluation and crop modelling research.
- Experience in supervising, training and evaluating technical support personnel.
- Good basic knowledge of the various aspects of crop yield modelling, including general biophysical and agrometeorological principles; also, the principles of soil science, Canadian regional geography and climate, and farming practices.
