The system was designed for emergency use in the case of a disaster and is located in the hose tower of the Stanley Tourangeau Fire/Service Building in downtown Arnprior.

The repeater and node were paid for in part by the Town of Arnprior and the federal government through the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP).

The antenna can be seen atop the hose tower. The repeater is in a small room just a few feet away.

This is the actual repeater and attachments.

The main power supplies, cans, repeater controller, IRLP board and cans are inside the "black box."

On top of the repeater is a two-metre radio that can be used as backup or as a link radio. It has its own power supply.

The DSL modem can be seen on top of the computer case.

Official opening. Arnprior Councillor Ted Strike, Mayor Len Shean and Fire Chief Tom Burnette listen to a handheld as the County Warden speaks from the Emergency Headquarters in Pembroke. The link was made using the new repeater, and the VE3NRR/VE3LKT repeater and node (2520) in Pembroke. Thanks to Renfrew County ARES and VE3PL, Les for handling the other end of the circuit as the two carried on a lively 10 minute QSO!

ARNPRIOR

A medium sized town of about 7,500 people at the confluence of the Ottawa and Madawaska rivers. Its market area encompasses about 25,000.

The town borders the City of Ottawa and the repeater site is about 45 minutes by highway from the Canadian Parliament Buildings.

The older section of Arnprior features shaded streets and a slower lifestyle than that of the Capital of Canada, Ottawa. Yet it is only minutes to the cultural and commercial attractions of Ottawa.

The downtown core is a busy and vibrant part of Arnprior with heritage buildings and many new retail shops. The repeater site is just off this picture, about one-half block from the top left corner of the photo. This is the heart of VE3YYX's coverage area!

The VE3YYX repeater covers an area about 15 kilometres in all directions from Arnprior but is primarily meant to concentrate on providing reliable handheld coverage in the town core.
