Hand Car for Sale

This Hand Car is my own design, built on a chassis I used for some other cars I had built.

The handcar is 7 1/4" gage with steel wheels (easily converted to 7 1/2" gage). The frame is steel and the deck and handrails are stainless steel.

The hand car is operated by pulling and pushing the "T" handle to drive a counterbalanced crank. Each side of the "T" handle is mounted on bearings so the handles rotate to keep the hands from being damaged. Also mounted on the "T" handle is a standard bicycle brake lever which activates the disc brake pirated from a snowmobile.

The hand car can be moved forward and backward, depending on the direction in which you begin. Also included is a unlocking mechanism which disengages the handle drive and allows a one-way clutch to operate. With the one-way clutch the power stroke and timing must be perfect in order to move the car. The faster the car goes the more difficult it becomes to apply a power stroke to move the car. The car may coast in this mode without the "T" handle moving.
